18 March 2010
Yorkshire Post Literary Luncheon, Harrogate

‘Conquest’

The Majestic Hotel, Springfield Avenue, Harrogate, HG1 2HU

Ticket availability TBA

Juliet says: The Yorkshire Post Literary Luncheon is one of the highlights of the Yorkshire cultural scene. The last time I was invited there was in 1995 when my biography ‘The Brontes’ won the Yorkshire Post Book of the Year award: it was my first (and sadly last!) prize so I was incredibly excited and nervous. Some of my old school teachers and my best friend from primary school days turned up so it was a real celebration. I’m really looking forward to speaking again at such a prestigious event.

15 May 2010
Heraldry Day, Royal Armouries, Leeds

‘Conquest’

2.50pm in the Bury Theatre, Royal Armouries, Armouries Drive, Leeds, LS10 1LT

Tickets: contact terry@melia.org.uk for details.

Juliet says: The Yorkshire Heraldry Society hosts an annual Heraldry Day at the Royal Armouries – and what better venue could there possibly be? It’s attended by members from other heraldry societies throughout the country and last year I spoke about Agincourt. My abiding memory is of the arrival of two ‘knights’ in full armour who’d just finished a public jousting display clanking into the theatre to listen to my talk. Certainly put me on my mettle! This year I’ll be talking about Conquest.

16 July 2010
Ways With Words at Dartington, Devon

‘Conquest’

Details TBA:
Tickets: www.wayswithwords.co.uk

Juliet says: There is a particular thrill for me in doing my event in the magnificent medieval great hall at Dartington as it was originally built in 1388 by John Holland, Richard II’s half-brother, who was executed by Henry IV in 1400. His widow married one of my heroes, Sir John Cornwaille, who played a leading role in the Agincourt campaign. Ways With Words Festivals are the best there are, so get in there quickly if you want a ticket!

9 September 2010
National Army Museum, London

‘Conquest’

12.30 pm at the National Army Museum, Royal Hospital Road, Chelsea, London, SW3 4HT

Ticket availability TBA

Juliet says: The National Army Museum is the perfect venue for a talk about Conquest: The English Kingdom of France. The talk is open to anyone and is part of a regular series of Thursday lunchtime events attended by a growing band of military enthusiasts and ‘interested others’. Not sure which category I fall into!
